Product Description
The Dr. Infrared Heater's Advanced Dual Heating System, combining PTC and Quartz Infrared Element, keeps you warm this winter while saving on heating bills. Equipped with a Dual Heating System and High Velocity Low Noise blower, the Dr. Infrared Heater increases the heat distribution and the result is heating your room to a comfortable temperature, fast. The Dr. Infrared Heater is certified by Underwriters Laboratories (UL) USA and Canada, ensuring the highest safety standard. The Dr. Infrared Heater is perfectly safe around children and pets and only gets warm to the touch. It does not have exposed heating elements that can cause a fire. The Dr. Infrared Heater comes with Energy saving Auto Mode, high and low setting when the mode is set to Auto, the unit will cycle on and off and switch between high or low setting to maintain the desired temperature setting. All Dr. Infrared heaters are engineered and designed in the USA. How is Dr. Heater Different from Other Heaters? Dr. Heater uses infrared heating, which heats objects in the room, instantly making you feel comfortably warm. By heating only the objects in the space--not the air--Dr. Heater provides maximum warmth and energy efficiency. With its state-of-the-art technology that helps the room retain air moisture, Dr. Heater do not dry out your skin like those convection heaters that blast out hot air, stripping the room of moisture. And the best part? It will save you money. Use Dr. Heater instead of your regular heating system, and you could save up to 50% on your next electricity bill. Plus, with its tip-over protection and auto shut-off overheat protection, you can sleep soundly knowing you have got a heater that is superior in safety. Tests Show Dr. Heater heats Faster and Better than Competing Heaters. In a side-by-side test comparison in airtight chambers with the same starting temperature, Dr. Heater heated the same amount of space much faster than a competing heater that has a price tag more than double that of Dr. Heater. Dr. Heater Delivers 60% more heat than other 1500-watt heaters. No magic trick--we just understand heat transfer better. Just because two heaters have the same wattage does not mean they transfer the same amount of heat. Wattage indicates the amount of electricity needed to power the heater--not the amount of heat it can deliver. Heater is the first to feature a dual heating system for maximum heat transfer rate. It combines the energy efficiency of infrared heat with the comfort of convection heat to heat your room fast and comfortably--without hot spots and cold spots. Dr. Heater uses a state-of-the-art 7-inch blower that generates higher pressure and moves larger air volume at a lower speed, without any of the noise of those other heaters on the market. Dr. Infrared Heater has three power Settings: Auto, Low 1000W and High 1500W. The auto energy saving mode allows you to set your desired temperature from 50-86F. It smartly selects between the two settings depending on your room temperature. The thermostat regulates the heater and causes it to cycle on and off to maintain the set temperature. You can also manually set the heater to run on High or Low all the time or with a timer. The heater has to be turned on first in order to use the remote. This a safety provision mandated by the Underwriters Laboratory. So, in order to use the remote, the first step for the user is to press the POWER button on the heater itself. This turns the heater on STANDBY. Then, pressing the POWER button on the remote will turn the heater on. The heater can't be turned on if the unit is not on STANDBY.

Great Quality Heater!
Reviewed in the United States on January 25, 2023I own 3 of these now. I finished my basement and the furnace doesn't quite keep the bedrooms warm enough during the winter so I bought one of these. I tested it in a large room, about 275 sq. ft, and it worked really well (all walls and ceilings are insulated). It was such a good heater I bought another one for another basement bedroom. And recently I bought one for an upstairs bedroom that can get a little chilly at night.
Pros:
1. Excellent build quality. It's made of wood and feels solid. Inside the wood cabinet that houses the blower and heating parts is made of sheet metal. So it's a wood cabinet that houses a metal box, with all the components inside of that metal box. I point this out because aside from the buttons on the front to operate, there is very little plastic on this heater. The castors (plastic) work well and roll on thick plush carpet. The wood cherry cabinet might look a little unusual or dated to some people but it does look like nicer, in my opinion, than all the other cheap plastic space heaters out there.
2. Heats well. The little heater pumps out air pretty efficiently. It can heat our large bedroom from 65 to 70 in a few minutes. The little blower on it is quiet and doesn't cause problems for those sleeping in the room. They describe it as white noise, on the eco setting, which still heats the large room well and keeps it warm.
3. Features are great.
- Has a timer that I believe maxes out at 12 hours
- It has an actual thermostat (you can see hanging out the back). You can set the desired room temperature. 68 degrees F is the default out of the box temp. Push the mode and arrow down button at the same time to see current room temp.
- Has different modes, eco, medium, and high. We mostly use eco for the cost savings and because it's pretty darn efficient.
- Remote is provided is definitely, but see my cons lists
4. Support is available and mostly responsive. Good support is key in a quality product. While nobody should ever have to use it, it's nice to have it available. See my cons lists below for more on support but they have a responsive support team, even if it can be a little delayed.
5. Comes all put together, including castors. Just pull it out of the box and follow the instructions taped on the front of the unit to get going.
Cons:
1. The remote
- The remote is required to set the timer. This is the single part of this heater I think is poor design. What if the remote is lost or doesn't work? How hard would it be to add this functionality to the unit itself?
- On one unit the remote stopped working. I contacted support and they took several days to respond. I had to email them again to see if they received my initial email. They did respond, and going forward communication was relatively smooth. They sent me a new remote, which didn't fix the problem. I lost communication with them again for several days when I reported this. They then came back and said I had to replace the main board on the unit. It's on the front of the heater. It's what the temp is displayed on and the buttons push into. Problem is you have to take the metal housing out of the inside of the wood box and take that covering off to get to the board. It wasn't too bad to replace. You really have to just remove about two dozen or more screws, swap out the board and put everything back together. They provided a relatively helpful video, though it's missing a few key parts. Like how the metal casing fits back together (corners overlap in some places and not others), and they didn't provide me with replacement zip ties, but I had some on hand. They did ask me before sending if I could do it myself and I said yes. I suspect if this repair makes you nervous they had some kind of alternate way to get it repaired for you. I figured this would save me time by doing it myself. It took me about an hour. Overall they backed their product and support did help me get the problem resolved. The cons here are the fact that it took about 3 to 4 weeks worth of emails and a board replacement to get it working again. The pros are they supported their product, and did actually respond, even if it said response was delayed sometimes. The remote has worked fine on my 2 other units. So I assume it was just a faulty board, which does happen in the world of mass production.
2. Support can be slow to respond - see previous con
As a side note, I'm not entirely sure what safety features are available with this. I've never tested them. The front of the unit doesn't get hot enough to burn you if you touched it, but it is blowing out very hot air so that alone could potentially hurt little kids or pets, or be very uncomfortable. Usually these space heaters have a tipping feature that would turn it off. I haven't tested for this feature but I will and I'll come back and update this review. The thing is that based on its design being a square box on wheels it's not likely to be tipped over. The more common shaped space heaters like the towers or ones that sit on a small narrow plastic base and are top heavy are far more likely to be tipped over. UPDATE ON THIS: I tested it and it does have a tipping safety feature and will turn off. It's pretty quick to turn off and even when it's turned back up right you have to turn it back on. It still would take some effort to knock over, but it's nice to know it's there.
Overall, I'd definitely recommend buying one, or three. I know they're more expensive than other heaters with similar specs and features, but the build quality alone should be enough for people to consider it. You'll spend more on this heater than others but it will also last you a lot longer. I suspect we'll have these for many many years.

Great supplemental heater
Reviewed in the United States on December 15, 2010We bought this heater to use in our living room and kitchen/dining area. We have all baseboard heat and our heating bills are usually through the roof. This heater does a good job and we are very happy, but there are a few things to point out.
1. It is a smaller heater than you might expect. It is half the price of an eden pure...but be advised that it's about half the size of the eden pure my parents have. That said, I think I'd rather have two of these than one eden pure that way I can space them out more.
2. This thing won't heat a 1000 sq/ft area. We use it in a 250-300 sq/ft living room that has an opening to our kitchen dining room that is about 250 sq/ft. It will heat up the room and maintain when it is as cold as the 20's outside...colder than that and we need to use our baseboard w/ this heater to get it up to temp (in about 10 minutes mind you)...and then this heater will do a great job of maintaining that heat on it's own. We did this down to about 4-5 degrees(F) outside and it worked great.
3. Haven't got a clue on heating bill, but it does draw some serious current. I have blown our breaker more than once by using this heater and our vacuum on the same outlet (always forget the heater is on...see 4)
4. Heater is very quiet and you won't even realize the thing is on except for seeing the orange glow back inside of the heater.
5. The wheels are awesome. We usually heat the living room for a few hours, then wheel it into the kitchen dining room for 20 minutes, then back for a couple hours.....super easy to do as you walk by and keeps both rooms at a comfy 71-74 degrees.
Bottom line is it is a great heater. It is drawing a lot of current but probably not more than 2 baseboard heaters that we virtually don't use now.....which have their own breaker each. I'd recommend it highly as it really gives you the cozy feeling that you don't get with those heaters that heat the air....compared to this one that heats you and the objects in the room. You can really tell the difference.

My Favorite Heater for Comfort and Convenience
Reviewed in the United States on March 21, 2026I’ve been using the Dr Infrared Heater DR-998, and honestly, it’s one of the best heaters I’ve owned. It warms up my space quickly and keeps it consistently comfortable without that harsh, dry heat some heaters give off.
What I really appreciate is the built-in humidifier it makes a noticeable difference, especially in the winter when the air gets so dry. I don’t wake up feeling stuffy or uncomfortable, which has been a big plus for me.
I also love how easy it is to use. The remote is convenient, the oscillation helps spread the heat evenly, and I feel good knowing it has solid safety features. It’s a little heavier than some heaters, but the wheels make moving it around simple.
Overall, it just works reliable, comfortable, and thoughtfully designed. It’s become my go-to for staying warm without sacrificing comfort.

Great product, but pretty rosy advertising claims
Reviewed in the United States on December 18, 2013Point 1: They are way overselling what this can do:
This heater can heat 1000 square feet only if it's in the center of a really well insulated space. They aren't lying - this device converts 1,500 watts of input into 5,200 BTU output. In New England at least, that is enough for 1,000 square feet of living space from most delivery systems. But to evenly deliver that heat from just one outlet you need to meet some pretty specific design conditions. Like putting the central outlet in the dead center of a super well insulated 999.9 square foot room.
But that said, it is a pretty powerful, great little space heater. Just a space heater, but a darn good one. I use this a supplemental heat source, and it is great. My house is 1300 square feet, with a pretty open floor plan, and very good insulation. If find that I can keep one part of the house pretty warm, maybe 400-500 square feet, tops. But, that is enough to enable me to leave that zone of heat off, saving money on heating oil. It saves me money because the increase in my electric bill was more than offset by the corresponding decrease in by oil bill. Which brings me to:
Point 2: This consumes power.
The advertisements are really making this seem like it's cold fusion. It is a powerful and comfortable heat source, but it still uses electricity in direct proportion to what it puts out. Advertising is advertising, but math is math.
I clipped this right from the preceding ad: "Wattage indicates the amount of electricity needed to power the heater--not the amount of heat it can deliver." That is demonstrably false. It takes 3.64 Watts to make 1 BTU. A kiloWatt is a thousand Watts. Electric companies charge by the kiloWatt hour (kWh). Lets assume 300 hours of run time a month, (unit on less than 1/2 the time) at .10/ (kWh) - and it's actually closer to .14 around here- and there is your cost to run it. If it runs for 300 hours & the electric bill is figured at .10 per kWh then it just cost you $30.00 to heat the room. IF that is cheaper than your other options - as it is for me - then you will save money.
That said, it really kicks out a lot of heat, and for the price you really cannot go wrong. If you are expecting to heat a garage, or even the 1st floor of an old farmhouse, you will probably be disappointed in cost to run and performance. Other things that they claim, like staying cool to the touch, etc. are true.
On further note: After a year and a half of use my DR 968 did stop working, but the factory was very helpful. They provided me with the fuse I needed to fix it free of charge. Incidentally, the fuse they sent was an improved design, which indicates to me that they are trying to improve their product. Granted, that's subjective, but it was still a positive experience.

How to make this heat work like it should
Reviewed in the United States on April 15, 2024You've just got to know how it works to get really great results, see below for what I found works best.
I bought this heater during the Black Friday sales so I got a good discount and I was happy it arrived safe and sound. It was well packed and works as expected. After seeing some of the less than positive reviews I decided to do some testing to see how many watts this thing really pulls, and how well it really works.
My results were interesting and these are anecdotal being that I only tested my heater and did not do a sample tests across a large batch but this is what I saw:
The difference between High and Low is between ~1050 Watts and ~1470 Watts or so (there is fluctuation). This seems more or less in line with what the manufacturer claims, so it really is what they say it is.
How to get it to work great: Pro-Tips
1. First make sure you have a thick enough extension cord if you're using one because it will pull almost 13 amps full out (U.S. Power grid) and do not overload the outlet/receptacle that you plug it into. Many receptacles in older homes are 15 amp and you can burn them up if you put too much on a single one. Newer homes have 20 amp receptacles so you have more forgiveness, but always, safety first.
2. To get this thing to work as it should, aim it at yourself. Really. No obstructions. None. Not a piece of paper, the cat, the dog, random extended family children coming to visit, NOTHING. This is infrared heat. How that works is that the heater is emitting infrared which heats up things in its path (you, or the couch, or whatever). This is not like a radiator type heater that uses convection and radiant type heating or a forced air heater that blows hot air into a room. You're not going to feel hot air blowing out of this thing or emanating from it in the same way as other heaters. Sit in front of it for a little while and you'll see, it works! You'll be warm and toasty and room won't be dry as a bone.
3. The thermostat is horrible. I almost deducted a star because of this but for me, I can control my heat myself, I don't need a thermostat. First the thermostat is located inside the cabinet, so what did I do? Of course, I relocated it outside. Problem fixed right? Nope, its so poorly calibrated it is several degrees off so I said to heck with it and stopped using it in that manner.
Final Pro-Tip: Now that you know how to use it, try it on low. You'd be surprised how well low actually works when it's aimed at you. It also warms you up slowly and more comfortably in my opinion. This has been great for my Toy Hauler and RV and it saves you up to 30% power usage!

GREAT HEATER
Reviewed in the United States on January 19, 2024I heartily recommend this heater. the Dr Heater 1500 watt heater. It has great heat and fan output and keeps my living area warm. It is easy to adjust the temperature up or down as needed. The automatic shut off on the heater is great and the fan keeps blowing the stored heat out at a lesser heat and fan speed to maintain the temperatue set until more heat is needed and the heat element kicks on again. The fan is very quiet and I don't have to use earphones when watching TV to keep the volume from annoying the neighbors.
I use this new one in the space between bedrooms and have had to reduce the temperature so I don't sweat at night. The old one I use in the living area and it keeps that area nice and warm
I bought two of these in 2018 and used them in a 500+ sq ft apt. One of the heaters is like this new one I just got. The second one did not have the heat or fan output but at the time that was OK. I used the better one in the living area and the lesser one in the bedroom where I did not need so much heat. I am sure if I had wanted to I could have returned the lesser one but at the time it did what I needed it to do and did not want the hassel.
I now have over 700+ sq ft. and after the last two winters where I have had to layer on layers to keep warm in addition to wrapping up in down throws I finally got out the heaters to try to keep warm. Again the lesser one did not put out the heat or fan power I needed. After using these two for a few days I decidied to replace the lesser one and am now writing about the new one I got. It has the heat and fan power I need to keep my place warm without the layers and the down throws. I like the fact that the fans are quiet and the temperature is automatic, shutting off the heating element when not needed but the fan continues to throw out the stored heat maintaing a comfortable. temperature. I have put the lesser heater away for possible future use should I need a back up for the older heater until I can replace it.
I can not address the electricity used as I have not received an electric bill yet for using the heaters. I have turned off my furnace and I enjoy the lack of noise from the furnace and its fan. I also enjoy not having the dust kicked out by the furnace. At my age I need to be kept warm and will willing pay for more electricity if it is needed. I hate the high electric bills I have in the winter when I don't get the heat I need.
Rather long winded review but as I said in the first output this is a great heater and the price is very affordable.

The Little Heater That Could
Reviewed in the United States on March 24, 2026So far this heater works excellent. We love the safety features as little heaters like this have always made my wife and I nervous. It’s very quiet and heats the room very well. We currently use it in an upstairs bedroom where the whole house heat doesn’t work as well and this really helps keep the room a more comfortable temperature. The remote is a handy addition as well. Just remember to set the heater a few degrees warmer than what the room temperature is, otherwise the air flow will shut down as it goes into the eco mode (depending on the mode you choose of course). We prefer eco mode to keep energy costs down and if it does reach the temp we selected, it will give the heater a chance to take a break.

No complaints about my Dr. Heaters. Best buy around.
Reviewed in the United States on November 18, 2013I bought an original older model over 4 years ago. We live in a "drafty" old farm house with modest to poor insullation. The house is about 1400 SF. The reason I bought it was because I have LP Gas heat, and LP Gas is more than twice to three times the cost of natural gas. Now, Normally my LP heating bill runs around $3,000 per year. Its horrible. I also have NIPSCO Electric, and they are high also.
So I bought the little Dr heater., Plugged it in in my 600 SF living room and it did the trick. Normally when the temps are all the way down to 20 degrees outdoors, it provided plenty of heat for that sized room.
Now.. I ran my little Dr. heater full blast, constantly, 24/7 November through March, and 50% of the time Mid Sept, through Oct, and again in April. So, all in all it ran about 4,440 hours per year.. for 4 1/2 heating years.. THATS 19,980 hours without a hitch or any problems.. then just today, the IR heating element finally went out. So off to the trash it goes.. and I have a new one from Amazon on the way. Do the cost analysis: I paid $119 for it and got 12,980 hours of great service out of it. Thats a cost to me of $0.0059 cents
per hour for every hour I used it.. and though it cost me about $36 per month for the electricity to operate it.. it saved me about $1,300 PER YEAR in LP Gas costs for each year I used it.. so there's a $5,850.00 savings over that time period in LP GAS expense. Its a pretty good trade off if you ask me. Cost me about $36 bucks more for the electricty to operate it, but saved me aroundn $260 or more per month in LP gas charges... AND it saved me a little in electric also because my furnace blower motor wasn't running near as much.. and those puppies can pull some amps too.
Oh.... two years before I ordered my cheap little original Dr. Heater .. I bought two "I-Heaters" at a cost of about $350 each.
I gotta tell you.. the little Dr. Heater put out TWICE the heat the 1500 Watt I-Heaters put out. The I-Heaters were a lot more expensive and they are noisy as hell. They sould like a mini grain dryer running in the room. The Dr. Heater is quiet as heck in comparison.
So here's my advice: If you have LP gas for heating then these WILL save you a lot of money in your gas expenses.
Not as much savings if you burn Natural Gas... but depending on your rate, they can save you some good bucks there also,
especially if you have an older furnace. Just get out your gas bills, your electric bills, and do some comparisons for yourself.
Also, if you live in a home with rooms you do not NEED to heat above, say 50 degrees or so, because you use them, you can also just close the doors, and use the little heaters in areas you want warm. I have two bedrooms closed off, because we never use them,
I set my furnace thermostadt at about 65 degrees, and heat our living room, Kitchen, Bathroom and bedroom with two Dr. Heaters.
Works for us. Saves us lotsa bucks, and we stay comfortable up here in cold old N.W. Indiana in our drafty ole farm house.
One more thing: Don't let all the other higher priced manufacturers fool you.. they are ALL MADE IN CHINA. Deal with it.
The Dr. Heater is just one of the best little heaters of the bunch and the lowest in price.
6 of my retired friends saw mine.. and ordered some for themselves too. They are all very happy with this little heater and
not one of us have a complaint about them. Yeah.. my old original Dr. Heater finally died.. but my God.. I worked it to death..
for 4 1/2 years... and it earned a good burial. Find ANYTHING that works that hard for that long and won't eventually just give out.
Well worth $119 bucks as far as I am concerned.

danielvilla5 out of 5 starsExcelente para calentar habitaciones granes

Toddcaper5 out of 5 starsWarms a large room well.
Reviewed in Canada on January 9, 2023I have an open concept +1000sqf space I'm trying to compliment while trying to lower my nat. gas bill. On it's own, it won't heat the space unless you're okay with warming the person nearest and in front of the heater. However, with my nat. gas thermostat lowered to 18C, this heater does a great job doing the rest to make the large room very comfortable. This time last year, at our local rates, it was costing me close to $600 per month to heat this house. My last two bills averaged $350 and it's been between -44C and -10C for most of that time. There have been rebates for energy that I have yet to factor in but there is a noticeable difference in room temperature when this heater is running. When I leave the house, I turn the heater off but I still allow the nat. gas furnace to run at 18C so when I get home, I do notice the difference in room temperature when the heater has been off for a while. I highly recommend.

jerry65 out of 5 starsGreat heater , well made with easy to use remote
Reviewed in Canada on November 14, 2019easy to set up and move with the wheels mounted on the bottom , looks great , almost to nice to use in garage , heats up quickly not much noise , move plenty of HOT air on high , like the filter on back , easy to remove and clean . . Overall a well made heater that is easy to use , if it lasts as long as stated it is a fantastic value
UPDATE
been over 1 year of use still works as advertised keeps the room at a steady 71 degrees cycles on and off every once in a while but fan is quiet have to be listening for it to be noticed . no more cold spots in the room with this heater running , no noticeable increase in electric bill it might be a bit lower as the baseboard heaters are working less often
2ND YEAR OF USE STILL WORKING WELL HEATS my 30x16 room easily keeps it at a steady 72 degrees , puts out plenty of heat keeps my garage at 54 all winter , heating bills have gone down since replacing the old industrial heater with this . with tis heater room is a constant 38 to 42 percent humidity , when using the baseboard heaters humidity drops to between 25 and 34 percent . will be buying another for the basement , much better than the old baseboard heaters in there now.
Update 2 , bought a second unit to use in the basement , heats up very quickly keeps the basement at a constant 68 degrees , when you use in econo mode it cycles on and off once in a while to test ambient temp if the temp is lower than 68 it turns on the heat if not is shuts down , people have commented that it cycles on and off , that is the reason for the cycling on and off to see if the temp is low enough that it needs to turn on heater , it is quiet so the cycling on or off should not bother you unless the heater is within a few feet of you , so far very pleased with these heaters
mow have 3 heaters , these are the best space heaters i've ever used , i find them super quiet maybe the others complaining of being loud have bad units , the 3 i have are just about silent not disturbing at all worth the money , hydro bill has gone down as well .
forgot to add it heats up very quickly , have one at the entrance to my house after shoveling snow i sit in front of the heater for a minute or 2 and i'm warm great way to defrost
