I was looking for a 10-year smoke detector that had a lithium battery since I am tired of changing out the 9 volt batteries every year. My other smoke detectors are also carbon monoxide combos and they are good for 10 years so everything will expire in 2035. It was easy to install. I could use the previous screws from my other first alert smoke detector but you have to use the new circular frame that comes with it or you won't be able to activate it properly.

1 of the 5 I purchased didn't work. I found out the hard way that there is a NO RETURN policy on these smoke detectors.

There is a yellow tab that you have to pull on and remove to activate these smoke detectors. After fooling around with it for awhile, I discovered that the mechanism associated with this pull tab did not activate the detector.

I pushed and tapped on the mechanism, and finally got the satisfying CHIRP. It now works.

So if you find that one of your smoke detectors does not activate, play around with those plastic pieces where the yellow tab was located.

Excellent value, easy install.

This a bare bones, stand-alone smoke detector. Does not even have an AC/whole-house connector, which I though was standard on all models these days. Just a sealed battery that cannot be replaced.

It is supposed to last 10 years. If so, that may be longer than the smoke detector is actually functional. That's because most modern smoke detectors (including this one) now have a "malfunction/replace" failure code. They beep because they are worn out, not because the battery is dead. (yes, they do wear out) In my experience, that failure occurs in 7-8 years, regardless of the cost or sophistication of the detector. So you might as well go cheap and buy this one.

A good choice if replacing an earlier similar First Alert model, since you can use existing base, which speeds installation. Just twist it onto the existing base. Just be aware it will not trigger other detectors in your house if there is smoke, since it cannot connect to such a system.

I fell in love with this townhome the minute I stepped into it both bedrooms have vaulted ceilings and that’s where they put the smoke alarms for those two bedrooms in the vault along the ceiling. You need extremely long tall ladders to reach them. they were supposed to last forever when you talk to contract people who understand wiring, etc. they tell you these have a 10 year lifespan. Mine died pretty recently. What happened was they couldn’t keep batteries that every time I put a 9 V in they died so I replaced them with these brand new ones and I absolutely love them supposed to also have a 10 year lifespan and there’s no wiring and no place to put a batteries you just put them in your ceiling and I know they work i’m a little crispy toast didn’t mean to test it, but at least I know they work.

Works great. I have seen people say it doesn't work but, it clearly states in the instructions that the battery will not activate until it is placed in the mount. Once that is done assuming you have removed the yellow activation tab. The unit will beep. Then it is active. You can remove it from the mount at anytime and it will still be active. Also. I've seen negative reviews stating that it doesn't line up straight with the mount. You have to turn it until it locks in perfectly. It can be placed in the slots every quarter turn. I have found no faults with this unit so far. Everything works as described. Please read the instructions provided.

Purchased 4 of these for a home my son purchased. We were painting, flooring, etc, and did not install as they were replacing ones that were in the house. We are not outside of the return window by 4 days. Opened them yesterday, removed tabs to activate, and 3 of the 4 do not work. One worked, light activated. These are sealed 10 year batteries, so that is not the issue. Now I have to call First Alert.

Easy installation & set up. Activation of 4 detectors was a simple process.

Why is it not working? I’m literally holding smoke near it. The test alarm indicates it’s working but it’s not reacting to such intense smoke.
