  6. How did we get our start?

    Just a few short months after starting a storm shelter business our gooseneck dump bed trailer with $40K worth of equipment was stolen from a secure site. The thieves cut through 3 heavy chains on the entry gate and then 2 logger chains running through the frame of the trailer and fastened to concrete blocks which had been poured into the ground. Heavy bolt cutters were used to defeat the chains and heavy-duty locks. We told ourselves - "this can't happen again" and we spared no expense in creating a new lock system for couplers so this would not happen again.

So when my lock arrived and didn’t close 100%, I went ahead and chose to ignore the instructions telling me to call in if I had issues regarding the fit. However, the steel proved to be quite hard and difficult for my angle grinder. It was definitely reassuring that if someone does decide to cut into it they’re gonna have a tough time. After what seemed like ages and only about a quarter inch sliver shaved off I now have a snug fitting lock and great peace of mind.

      I know that no lock is 100% secure, but I'm looking for a deterrent when away from my trailer with the cats left behind. Given my trailers is not the largest most expensive trailer out there, this fits the bill perfectly.

      It also fits my trailer perfectly--a 2019 Winnebago 2106DS. Fits well with the latch locked forward in the locked position.

      The three large keys is a nice bonus. Probably easier to get duplicated than some of the smaller keys, but I have not looked into that as there's no need.

      Only complaint is that they should have found a way to put the key on the top, you have to use your hand to find the key hole, when you are tall and over weight it’s hard to get your head down low to see the key hole .

      After what seemed like ages and only about a quarter inch sliver shaved off I now have a snug fitting lock and great peace of mind.

      Let me preface this by saying that I like to consider myself pretty handy. So when my lock arrived and didn’t close 100%, I went ahead and chose to ignore the instructions telling me to call in if I had issues regarding the fit.

      However, the steel proved to be quite hard and difficult for my angle grinder. It was definitely reassuring that if someone does decide to cut into it they’re gonna have a tough time.

      After what seemed like ages and only about a quarter inch sliver shaved off I now have a snug fitting lock and great peace of mind.

      I feel better knowing that anyone that gets in my storage yard and try's to steal my trailer has to work REALLY hard to get this lock off. I think it will discourage most all thieves. You need a blow torch to get this off without the key!
