I don’t usually write reviews, but this one deserves it. I installed the Auto-Vox 8.2” backup camera on my RV and it has completely changed how confident I feel on the road—especially when backing up and changing lanes.

First Impressions

Right out of the box, everything felt solid and well-built. The monitor is a great size—big enough to see clearly without being distracting. Setup was way easier than I expected, even for someone who isn’t super technical.

Installation

Honestly, this was one of my biggest concerns going in, but it turned out to be pretty straightforward. The instructions were clear, and once I got everything mounted and powered, it synced up without any headaches.

Performance on the Road

This is where the system really shines.

Final Thoughts

If you own an RV and don’t have a backup camera—or you’re dealing with a bad one—this is absolutely worth it. It’s one of those upgrades that instantly improves your experience and peace of mind.

I feel a lot safer driving now, and that alone makes it worth every penny.

I installed this and used it for a month before writing this to help be as informative as possible regarding the reliability and functions. Let's just say it works better than expected. This is a must have for towing a trailer or driving a large vehicle with blind spots. I ordered this specifically because it was from auto-vox. I've purchased from them before and everything has always been well made and very high quality. This wireless setup is no exception.

Installation was very simple and straightforward. The instructions are well written and easy to follow. With basic mechanical and electrical inclination anyone can install this setup in just a couple of hours. The left and right cameras are conveniently labeled to help prevent placing them on the opposite sides. I thought i put them on backwards because the view from sides were initially upside-down. But after some trouble shooting i realized you can change the viewing rotation with the menu options of the monitor. The wireless monitor has a wide range of options to dial in your personal preferences for recording, camera viewing, and picture quality. I put these on my work truck topper to help my overall visibility when driving especially a night. The topper makes it impossible to see behind me without some sort of camera and this works better than I would have hoped. The cameras are designed to be powered by splicing into the parking light or daytime running light wires, but you could potentially wire them to another preferred power source or independent switch. They have a wide range of adjustment for getting the best view of your surroundings. I do suggest testing the view from each camera before screwing it into place for its permanent intended location. I chose the the parking light wire as it was the simplest option for my application and works exactly as it should. The wireless monitor comes with a 12v cigarette lighter style power cord with a USB port for any reason you might need one. It also comes with a USB only power cord as an additional option. Both power cords have on/off switches to save your battery life when not in use. The monitor itself attaches to a supplied stand that uses a strong adhesive tape to stick to your dash, windshield, or any relatively flat surface. The base of the stand is somewhat flexible to allow for some curvature of the desired attachment location. Once i had everything hooked up and powered on it worked immediately. There was no pairing or device management needed, just turn on and go. The video quality is very good for a wireless setup and I'm able to clearly make out objects or vehicles that happen to be in my blind spots. I'm also able to use the monitors menu to view the camera's feeds in any combination of one, two, or all three cameras. I can also rotate the viewing angle of each camera on the monitor in 90⁰ increments. The recording option is another great feature to have in the event of a collision or just to review in general. In the month that I've used this for nearly every day I have not once had any sort of issue. The settings I've input have stayed as I've left them. The cameras have performed consistently and reliably. I have had no outside interference or connectivity issues. Overall this is very high quality camera setup that is easy to use and very reliable. I highly recommend for anyone who needs improved rear visibility when driving.

This is my second wireless camera system that is installed on a Grand Design Imagine RV towed by an F250. The previous system was unable to handle the distance from camera to screen. This system has no problem with the the 48 feet of distance. Installation was easy except the camera wasn’t working and they had to send me a replacement (customer service was efficient). As other reviewers pointed out, the screen is extremely small, and I’ll be looking for a larger model in the future. The screen is not compatible with different mounts like a more standard 20mm ball would allow, so you are stuck with the cheap factory mount which limits options. I gave it 4 stars because of the small screen and limited mounting options, but was happy with the overall performance and customer service.

I got the 3-camera package.

While it does leave some things to be desired, overall, it's a great value for the price.

Everything is hard-wired, so there are no batteries to worry about.

Cons:

The included SD card is way too small, and there is no mention of the maximum card size that the system will accept.

There is no mention what the recording resolution is. Does it record all 3 cameras at full HD? (Not much would fit on the included 32 GB card...)

The monitor is a bit small. Would be nice to have a larger screen for the money.

Only 1 mount/stand is included for the screen, and it's a glue-on kind. Would be great to have a second, free-standing stand included.

2 power cords are included for the monitor: USB and cigarette lighter. Would nice to also get a 12V hardwire connector included.

It is great that the cameras can be powered separately from the running lights. I plan on providing a separate power source for the 3 cameras, so that I can have them on constantly. The monitor unplugs easily from its power cable. I plan on leaving the cigarette cord in the truck, and install the USB cord in a hidden area of the trailer. When parked, I'll move the monitor to the trailer, so that I can have constant security recording - provided that the unit will accept a large enough Micro SD card...

Works great once you put the taller antennas on the video receiver and the shorter antennas on the side cameras. I use this on my 43 foot toy hauler. I now have a clear view of cars and trucks as they go by or when I over take a slow truck going up hills. This is a fairly easy upgrade that is wired into the two front side running lights on your trailer and an upper rear running light for the rear camera. We have tested it for 3000 miles so far and are happy with it. The screen is a little small but I like the compact size because it doesn’t block the view out the front windshield. Also it is wired into the running lights so no need to charge batteries.

Love this system! Mounting was so easy and setup was so easy. Had the backup camera up and running in just minutes. I attached the wire to an always on wire so that I not only see when backing up but also leave on and use it as a rear view mirror whenever I needed to see behind me when my camper was in my truck bed. The quality of the pictures was so clear and I feel so much safer now that I can see all the way around my truck! The backup camera has parking lines you can adjust or turn off. The signal was stable and stays on when driving. The screen is so much better than the stock camera that is on my rear view mirror. You can mount the cameras where ever you want so it makes it easier to access the wires to power up the cameras. You can see three cameras at once or just choose one camera. I highly recommend this camera if you need to see around a camper truck cover!

I have an older 40 ft Class A pusher and I got this to replace the older black and white style system that was in it from original. It was a super easy change out. The monitor worked in place on the mount on the dash, and then I re-used the 4 wire camera for the main rear view and just connected black / red to fused 12v power so it would act simply as power feed. Then popped out the 2 side markers lights and used the power feeds for those. It all works with no other real setup needed over the wifi signal for the signal. The video is super clear, I can run it on watching my trailer and for lane changes or threading into tight spots, gas fill ups, etc. Plus it keeps recording which is nice to have if something ever happens on route. The nice part is that I keep mine parked in an enclosed storage - it's the only reason she's lasted this long - so while the solar ones work great too and don't even need power, I like that mine is powered off the 12v system for the vehicle itself. So this works when I pull it out even at night and don't need to let it get charged up or internal batteries to wear out over time. It's a great upgrade and easy install.

Looks good, but not overly impressed. Software is buggy....... Camera is really limited as far as where you would be able install it because of the downward angle. I tried and connect it to my phone, now I'm done playing with it and my phone is flickering and doing some crazy crap. 😕 Seems like I can't get rid of navigation now.... It keeps jumping back as I'm watching videos on YouTube..... What the......? Also it had a decent view backwards but then somehow the reverse lines popped in..... Now I can't get rid of yellow red green lines.... Touchscreen does not work ones those lines go full screen 😳🫣 I've waisted a lot of time trying to undo then backup lines.....no success so far 😶. I connected it to a constant live 12volt. Bad idea that rear camera is running 24/7 and slightly hot..... I must connect it to a tale light that goes on only when I start the truck. Other problem I encountered was with the inside unit was that one's I plugged it in to the 12volt socket, it wouldn't shut off ones I locked the truck. It stayed on an on and on.... I have to unplug it because otherwise it would eventually drain the battery. I would've payed double the money If there was a a better brand or better functioning unit out there.

I bought this so I could hardwire it to my trailer. I had a previous magnetic version that worked well so I thought I’d try this one too. The cool part was I was able to hook the old camera up to it too so now I’ve got a dual rearview system. It works really good to see what’s behind me when I’m driving and backing into spots.

Très satisfait pour mon usage. Je l'utilise comme mirroir arrière sur ma roulotte. J'ai soulevé l'inclinaison de 25 degrés et profité du courrant des feux de position (très simple à installer (la longueur de fil fourni est généreuse). L'écran est montée sur mon rétroviseur de véhicule (même réflex que sans remorque). J'ai dû me "patenter" un support pour rétroviseur. (Ce serait bien dans le kit plutôt que le "gugus" à coller.

Kaum bestellt und am übernächsten Tag auch schon erhalten, sicher mit code. Ich habe sie noch nicht installieren lassen, aber sie war gut verpackt und schaut hochwertig aus. Einziges Manko, deswegen 1 Stern weniger, sind die elektrischen Anschlüsse, reiner Funk wäre mir lieber gewesen :)

I've tested quite a few AUTO-VOX trailer camera kits now, and universally these are excellent products. You can't go wrong with any of them, to the point I've now got one on my tent trailer and gotten others for my family as gifts. They're all high build quality, have exceptional range and very good picture quality, and are generally easy to install. This review is going to focus on some of the differences between this model and the solar-powered kit I have in use on my trailer currently.

In terms of pros/benefits:

-This offers one of the biggest screens on an AUTO-VOX system to date, and the touch sensitivity is excellent.

-This is their first Android Auto / Carplay-integrated system I've tried and its very good. This can serve as an entire vehicle entertainment/audio system, not just a backup camera. For vehicles without that existing integration, this is a phenomenal upgrade on that basis alone.

-Installation hardware is all included and the in-vehicle installation is quite straightforward.

-SD card for recording is included, and this is the first of their systems I've tried with the capability of recording the camera's continuous output. That allows this to function as a rear-view dashcam as well as backup camera, which is a great added feature.

-The in-vehicle power supply is a 12V adapter that connects to USB-C, finally. AUTO-VOX's other models use a 12V to proprietary pin system, which was always frustrating if you wanted to use your own 12V adapter. With this one you finally can.

Drawbacks/cons:

-The on-screen controls aren't completely intuitive; you'll need to read the manual. As an example, I found that in order to view the live camera output I needed to press on the DVR button (which you'd think controls recording, right?) instead of the other camera-labelled function. It's a minor gripe, but the UI could use a little work. Android Auto works as expected, however.

-The camera feels like a regression on their other models. Mine for example has a stand-alone solar charging system and can also be removed to be charged directly from a power supply via a USB cable. It's not at all dependent on vehicle or trailer wiring, so it can be literally installed anywhere. This model is hardwired, requiring you to tap into either an existing 3.5mm pre-wired camera jack if you're lucky enough to have one, or more likely tap into the trailer lighting system. That's also limiting because you have to select a light that has constant power - no using the driving lights or plate light that activate only when you have your headlights on at night. Installation is a bit of a pain as a result.

-The camera housing is all plastic, including where the screws attach to the trailer. While not entirely unexpected, I've been spoiled with the other cameras that had steel mounting plates and magnetic attachment.

-Camera angles are limited and a little difficult to adjust.

All in all, this is still an excellent value on a combined vehicle entertainment control and backup camera system, and if you can use the Android Auto / CarPlay system it's well worth the $280 CAD regular price (at review time). If you don't need the smart system, and recording isn't important, just view, I recommend looking at their other models for something more versatile in its camera installation and power options.
