Progressive Industries makes a great line of protectors and this one helped troubleshoot a problem at a campground before we fried our 5th wheel. When we went to hook up after getting level on the pad, we plugged this in first and it was easy to see there was an "Open Ground" which meant we could have gotten some harsh spikes or even hot skinned our rig.

We had the park manager look at it, at first he wanted to argue there was nothing wrong but the lights on it and super easy to read indicators showed the pad next to us didn't have the same problem at the pole.

He came back a couple of hours later and installed a new box - the old one had been chewed on by rodents exposing wires inside. He was rather impressed how easy it was to troubleshoot on the spot in minutes and wrote down the information so he could order one to test all the poles in the park.

This is a MUST have for any RV'er. I am a full time RV'er and I know this because one has already saved my rig from an overload! Get a smart surge protector and keep your appliances and electronics because if you don't have a surge protector then your going to have to buy all new electronics. It will happen to you sooner or later. This is assuming your still alive since overloads also like to cause fires... Be safe fellow campers and full timers.

This SSP-50XL ONLY INDICATES power fluctuations, it does not stop them. Received product, looks and feels solid/good quality. Read instructions and in the product over view side by side comparison column chart, this clearly only uses visual indications of power irregularities. I called Progressive Industries customer service and they were polite, easy to understand and confirmed my concerns. I have since returned the product and promptly ordered the Progressive Industries EMS PT50X which clearly states that it protects against power irregularities and confirmed this is what I wanted initially. Visual indications may be fine for some or constrained by budget, but as for family of five camping in a 41’ fifth wheel, I can’t keep up with a piece of equipment that only provides visual information.

Very good protector and easy to see Indicator

My wife and I just recently started using our rv. We needed a surge protector and since her late husband was an electrician I decided we need a surge protector that is UL listed and rated. The Progressive surge protector was the only one of many shown that is UL listed. That means it has been safety tested for your protection. If you buy a surge protector, get this one.

However the plastic cover will not close down against the protector frame. Our power cord, 2019 Solitude 310gk, has a loop that acts as a handle to assist in removal from the power plug at the power post. This handle doubles the depth of the head of the power cord, which does not allow the cover of the Surge Protector to close. The cover still mostly covers the connection between the head of the power cord and the Surge Protector, so moisture penetration should not be a problem. The main purpose of the SP to check for polarity and or power faults is still accomplished, which is where the value for money takes effect.

It is great for safety at RV parks as different locations you travel too might have different power.
