I’ve been using the Progressive Industries EMS-PT50X, and it works great. Setup was simple, and it gives me real peace of mind knowing my RV is protected from electrical issues.

I especially love the features—it clearly displays voltage and detects potential problems before they can cause damage. It feels solid and well-built, and so far it has performed exactly as expected.

Definitely a worthwhile investment if you want to protect your equipment and avoid costly electrical repairs.

Purchased May 2020 to use toward our brand new 2020 grand design momentum 399TH. This product was highly recommended. We used it for the first time in July for me and my husbands bday vacation at Big River Oak RV resort. We followed all the directions, watched YouTube videos, read everyone’s Q&A, and read all the reviews prior to usage. We were very disappointed that it did not work. We got the error codes no matter which method we used. We made sure the power unit switch was turned off, then plugged in the protector, turned the switch on to let it test but still got an error code. No power to our RV at all. Maybe it works too well??? We couldn’t go with no power throughout our 5 day stay so we were forced to plug directly with no protection. We thought about returning it but figured we’d give it another try at another reservation we had for this Labor Day weekend at La Havienda RV resort. Same result ...and now we are past our return time frame and stuck with an expensive surge protector we can’t even use. Our only option now is to contact the manufacturer directly and see what we are doing wrong or if it’s a faulty. It’s still under warranty so I’m hoping that is the case...fingers cross. I will update this review if something can be done.

OCT 2020 UPDATE: We were finally contacted by a Tech from Progressive and he helped us figure out why our surge protector was not working. All we had to do was wait 2-3 minutes after plugging it in and what do u know...it worked! After all this time! Unfortunately this was not included in the instructions. None of the YouTube videos we’ve watched had this suggestion either. The model we purchased was the EMS-PT50X. So anyone who purchased this protector and has come across the same issue...just be patient and wait 2-3 min is the key. We can now have peace of mind that our RV is protected. The last photo shows the protector working. So far so good...

We had the 30 amp version of this with our old motorhome. When we upgraded our MH, we upgraded to this 50 amp version. Easy to use, makes us comfortable about the power at various campsites as we travel. It's a little bulky but worth it for the protection and peace of mind it provides. Have had no issues with this unit - did have a problem with the first 30 amp unit we purchased - we contacted customer support and they replaced it with minimal fuss.

I was wondering if anyone has had issues with their surge protectors and trying to get it warrantied? I have an EMS-PT50X that I (and other RV experts) feel had an issue with one of its female slots where the plug goes in causing arcing/heating issues where my plug end was melted. I have attached pictures for reference.

Background: A week or so ago I was staying in my Class A motorhome at a very new park near Chattanooga. The AC’s stopped working so I checked the pedestal to see if there was still power. The Progressive was still showing power to it and my coach was showing both AC legs to have power. But there clearly was an issue with power to the coach. Not being an expert, I reached out to the park owners (who also have an RV repair facility). Four people showed up to help (the owner, his son, and two RV techs). The plug was extremely hot to the touch (the guy burned himself) and when he flipped the handle to remove the plug from the Progressive, it was fused to the Progressive. The handle broke in the process of the removal, but he was successful in separating the two. After a lot of discussion, we plugged my cord directly into the same pedestal. The AC came back on, there was no heat and all was fine until the next day when the RV tech replaced my plug end due to the damage.

I sent all the pics into Progressive (Navico) where their “experts” said it was my plug that caused the issue! “If the EMS-PT50X is not functioning properly this would be because of damage to the unit caused by the RV power cord plug. This is external damage and is not covered under warranty.”

In my opinion, this company is an abomination. They are part of a conglomerate owned by Brunswick with no sense of customer satisfaction. They advertise lifetime warranty, but you would need legal action to actually get anything warrantied. I ordered a Hughes Power Watchdog PWD50EPOW and hope for better results. I have not had a single heating issue with just the cord/plug into any pedestal since it was plugged into the Progressive. What a shame. Looking forward to my Watchdog!

This EMS is great. I find it a great value for the money. Yes I know if the EMS takes a hit I am buying a new one vs just changing internal parts and that's a trade off I am ok with. It is heavy and bulky. Keep that in mind. Plugs in nice and I run my 30amp trailer with it. I bought the 50amp in case I upgrade. I'd buy this again
