I recently purchased the Outin portable espresso maker and have been absolutely thrilled with the results. As someone who loves high-quality espresso but often travels or spends time outdoors, this product is a game-changer.

Works as described. It'll heat your cold water and make the shot, or you can heat the water before and just make the shot.

The downside is that using a Nespresso OE type pod, or the tiny 6g included portafilter, the water flows through quickly and makes a thin watery coffee. The pump motor is very powerful. But that is not the fault of the machine, it's the fault of trying to make good espresso with a tiny amount of coffee. The result from using a pod is the same as if you used a Nespresso machine, which is actually not that bad at all. If you use restraint and add less than 20ml (or less than 15ml) of water, you'll get a better shot, albeit a tiny one. You can tap the button mid-shot to stop the pump too, so just stop it when the shot looks right. The other downside is that it is relatively big and heavy. Almost certainly not for minimalist backpackers. Car or motorcycle campers and hotel travelers are the target market.

The best thing to do with this machine if you want serious espresso is to also buy the Nano Basket Plus. It's an 18gr stainless portafilter add-on that you fill with good coffee properly (very finely) ground & tamped that will produce a pro-level awe-inspiring shot. That combination will absolutely replace a $2000+ Italian espresso machine on your counter.

But for a very portable machine for the office or travel, this paired with good quality Nespresso pods is a major step up from hotel room coffee, or having to stumble down to the coffee shop in the hotel lobby in your PJs and slippers to get your morning fix. That is my use for it- hotel room use when I travel. Fill it with water before I go to sleep, stick a pod in there and leave it on the night stand. When I wake up, press and hold the button for a few seconds, it'll heat the water and dispense the shot into the included cup in a little over 3 minutes. Caffeinated before I even get out of bed.

If you go the Nespresso compatible OE pod route, I strongly recommend the Starbucks brand. That part of the company is owned by Nestle (who owns Nespresso) so the pods are real-deal, but they have good fresh coffee in them. Honestly, the hassle of grinding coffee to make a 6gr shot is not worth it, just use the pods.

The coffee only touches the lower parts that screw off, so clean up is just a quick rinse. It's mostly plastic but it seems like high grade durable plastic that'll take some abuse. There is nothing about this coffee maker that seems cheap, lightweight or under-engineered. To the contrary actually, it's heavy duty and well made. Like all battery powered tools, the battery is a wear component of this device and when the battery dies, your coffee maker dies. Unless iFixIt comes up with a tutorial on how to replace the battery. Hopefully it's a really good quality battery that will last years.

Wow, I really like this espresso maker. Since I started making my own espresso with a larger tabletop machine, I was looking for a way to make espresso on the go, for example at work or in a hotel when traveling. I am so impressed with this tiny machine, that now I am using it at home at my desk all the time, even though I could go into the kitchen and use the larger machine. There is no perceivable difference in the quality of my espressos.

The machine is very well designed and the material feels high quality (especially the plastic parts) and very sturdy. It has a nice large water reservoir, that is able to hold enough water to make a double shot and even a lungo (extra water on top). The quality of the espresso shots is amazing with nice rich crema on top every single time. I did get the additional basket plus, so I can pull double shots and I highly recommend to add this to your Nano.

The most amazing part is the battery life. I tried once or twice to make an espresso from cold water and that eats a good portion of the battery, but it also heats the water from room temperature to make a perfect hot espresso. But when you use already heated water from a kettle, you can go with this machine almost indefinitely. I have used it daily for a few month now and so far have not needed to recharge it. That's amazing.

Overall this is an amazing portable espresso maker and all their accessories are worth looking at as well.

Love the Nano. Bought it for the camper but use it at the house and office because it just gives you a great cup of espresso anywhere.

Had ours for a year and a half. Worked great for literally hundreds of shots. Then it quit pouring all together . Still heated water but wouldn’t do anything with the water. Reached out to Outin and they quickly got back to me. Asked for a couple pictures and a video. Within short time I had an email saying a replacement was on its way.

Not many companies come up with a great product that fits a “want “ and then turns around and backs up that product with great service. Outin stands by the product they produce.

Here is the good: it is small, it makes great coffee, it is battery powered

Here is the meh: the maximum allowed liquid quantity is just too small. Need to be able to make two espressos.

Here is the ugly: really the battery capacity needs to be doubled. The fact that it only makes 2 espressos on a charge is frankly ridiculous and I had an instance where the machine quit on the second cup. To add insult to injury - if you plug it into the charger you can't complete the brew. It does not work when it is out of juice and charging. So you need to open it up, drain the water and carry it to the charger (with the ground coffee inside) ... it is just weird like that.

Need to make at least 4 brews with the knowledge that once the battery starts to age you get at least the 2 promised brews.

Need to operate while plugged into the charger. The worst thing to happen is when you making coffee for a special someone and the whole rig stops working in the middle of the process and you simply don't have the 20 minutes to wait for it to get charged.

I'm a van camper, like Capuccinos and espresso is at the base so I got this and it truly make a great little espresso. For ease of cleanup I use pods (compatible with nespresso original line). I purchased this in 2024 and gave it light use. I recently went to fire it up for my next trip but the heating element didn't work anymore. I figured that was it but I texted the seller anyway... I was AMAZED, they sent me another one and gave me my color preference even. They asked for some pictures of the LED light action but that's it. I am still blown away so you can rest easy this company backs up their product!!

It's very portable, and easy to use. I bought it to have American-style coffee in the UK (could never find satisfying drip there). Only two charges, then 90 minutes give or take until next use if you plug it in. Cleanup of the parts does take a few minutes. The coffee comes out smooth, delicious, and piping hot! I used the grounds from my normal K-cups. I opened the K-cups and poured the grounds directly in. The K-cups themselves are not compatible, but each one would make 2 shots of coffee. Perfect.

Wow! For someone who heavily tends towards setting up my coffee the night before, and having the machine run around wake up, this is pretty fantastic as a change from either making a ~20 minute stop during a busy day for a coffee, or from using some instant in cold water. So, less experience, and more get it done. For a good, slow day I'll do a pour over, but espresso for me has lived in the realm of go to a place and pay a human.

I got some pods from a familiar brand as well as tried out some espresso grind (freshly ground) coffee. The pod looked better, and while it's got all the usual characteristics of a dark roast, by itself I would say it turned out well. With creamer, like I take my coffee, it was definitely something I could drink daily let alone be quite happy when out for a long day such as a good hike. Tried again with my own ground coffee, by itself it was unpleasant and with creamer it was as good or better than my morning coffee. Both were greatly improved as a mocha with a dash of hot cocoa mix, so could be me that's off.

Noise is a bit loud, you would really notice this out in nowhere. No, it's not coffee grinder loud, but it's louder than my drip coffee machine. Size is good, like a larger water bottle, here is hoping to see future revisions since it feels like size could come down. Weight feels pretty good too. For day hikes, I'll definitely bring this along. For short camping trips, this could definitely be plan a for waking up in the morning. And where this will see the most use for me, day trips with my young kids. Leaving a zoo or a park, where my emotions and energy are falling and fast, this could mean adding some coffee to this, popping in a pod, setting it to make a shot while I then move on to getting the kid a snack and comfortable before we head home. Absolutely going to change those outings if it holds up.

Haven't done a deep clean yet, feels like running water through it for a thorough clean could be a challenge. But the parts I used would be good enough with a quick wipe down, so I feel like it will be easy enough. Wish it came with a bag, but glad I've got one.

Definitely recommend it for those on the go wanting a little hot water. Oatmeal? I'm hoping it's as durable as it feels, would love to still be using this in years to come.

OutIn Nano – Cafetera Espresso Eléctrica Portátil

Nos hallamos frente a una doble cafetera, por una parte, una verdadera cafetera espresso y además con capacidad también para cápsulas Nespresso, en este caso su desempeño es tan bueno como cualquier cafetera eléctrica enchufable.

Soy amante del buen café, en especial del café de especialidad. Lo aclaro porque soy exigente y no me conformo con cualquier resultado. Este tipo de café requiere un trato más cuidadoso en su elaboración y, como ocurre con todo, tiene una curva de aprendizaje: el mejor rendimiento se consigue tras varias preparaciones, y cuanta más experiencia, más fácil resulta obtener un espresso excelente. Con esto último, en alusión solo al usar café molido.

Cuando la compré era bastante escéptico, sobre todo porque el propio James Hoffmann no la recomendaba. Sin embargo, decidí probarla.

Entrega y presentación

El paquete llegó en perfecto estado y dentro del plazo. La descripción del producto en la web coincide fielmente con lo recibido.

Calidad y construcción

Se ve ya desde el mismo paquete que es un producto de calidad. En mano no defrauda, se siente cómodo y está muy bien construido. Transmite solidez y sorprende lo ligera que es: solo 670 gr.

Es, hasta la fecha, casi la única cafetera portátil capaz de calentar el agua gracias a su batería de 7500 mAh, con autonomía para preparar hasta 5 cafés. Si usas agua ya caliente, puedes preparar muchos más.

La utilizo en vacaciones, camping, viajes o en la oficina; desde que la tengo, nunca me falta un buen café.

Admite cápsulas tipo Nespresso y café molido. Para este último incluye una cápsula presurizada con capacidad para unos 6 g, logrando un resultado regular o mejorable, en este punto coincido con Hoffmann.

Con cápsulas ofrece un rendimiento similar al de cualquier cafetera eléctrica de red; con café molido, la calidad dependerá de tu técnica y del producto que utilices.

Siempre condicionado por la calidad del café o de las cápsulas y sin duda del agua.

Nota: si la batería se agota, no podrás seguir usándola hasta recargarla, al menos unos minutos, ya que no funciona mientras está conectada a la carga.

Mejora recomendada: kit Basket Plus

La experiencia cambia radicalmente con el kit de accesorios Nano Espresso Basket Plus, que permite preparar un doble espresso con 16–18 g de café en una cesta sin presurizar. En mi opinión, este kit debería venir de serie, aunque encarezca el producto, porque si buscas un espresso auténtico, lo vas a necesitar sí o sí.

No me detengo demasiado en la opción de cápsulas tipo Nespresso, francamente el resultado es excelente, tan solo introducir la cantidad de agua deseada para el tipo de bebida y listo, un resultado en la práctica idéntico al de cualquier cafetera de sobremesa, con la ventaja de que puedes usarla en cualquier lugar y situación.

Volviendo como máquina puramente para espresso, con el kit obtendrás un espresso de verdad, siempre que utilices un café de calidad, preferiblemente arábica de especialidad, recién molido para espresso (necesitarás un buen molinillo, aunque sea manual) y agua mineral. El kit incluye ajustador, distribuidor y tamper para conseguir una buena compactación.

Para obtener el mejor resultado, recomiendo seguir un ratio 1:2: por ejemplo, 16 g de café para 32 g en taza, en un tiempo de extracción de 25–30 segundos. Si no respetas estos parámetros, el resultado será decepcionante. Hay que tomárselo con calma, disfrutar del proceso y del aprendizaje. El espresso es, con diferencia, la preparación más exigente en técnica y precisión, más que Moka, V60, Melitta, Aeropress o prensa francesa.

Conclusión

La compré en oferta y ha sido una gran adquisición para mí y para mi mujer. Con café molido de especialidad requiere trabajo y técnica, pero vale la pena. Con cápsulas, en cambio, es muy sencillo y disfrutarás igualmente.

Como sugerencia para futuras versiones, incorporaría un sistema de apagado automático al quedarse sin agua, para evitar que la bomba funcione en vacío. Así como poder selección la temperatura, estaría bien.

En definitiva, un excelente y versátil cafetera portátil, espresso y de cápsulas, la recomiendo sin ninguna duda.

Nice Machine, bit bulky but does the Job. Though coffee output is not enough as the cup is small. Landed using the Coffee Pods, as they are strong well packed and easy to use. Good for travelling in the car/ Train or Plane. if you have the space.

This machine is better than I’ve anticipated. It gives perfect espresso’s anywhere from car to outdoors. Heavy solid quality feel, easy to use. I absolutely love it. If there would be a minus: it has ‘only’ capacity for 3 maybe 4 cups when heating. It’s not really a minus but a logical consequence for being so small and portable. But when you are able to fill it with hot water it has plenty more capacity. A cool, handy and pretty machine I didn’t know I needed so badly. Now I’m hooked.
