First time installing a topper. Great videos and installation information but having limited space to follow instruction step by step I opted to install it an unusual way. Before explaining, my RV came equipped with a solera topper prep package, and I ended up ordering the bracket that fit my RV to avoid making new holes.
Instructions state to roll awning on the cylinder first leaving slack to install the other end on the rail that bolts to the RV. I found that pushing the plastic rod through the awning was difficult and awning was not even through any channel. Instead of installing awning on the cylinder first, I installed it on the rail that bolted to the RV. I had my wife on the ladder hold one end of the awning while I was on the roof of the RV guiding the awning through the rail. We left the awning hang down the side of the RV. I then installed the other end of the awning “without a ladder” through the cylinder. Once both ends of the awning where in their corresponding channels, I set ladder mid-way and tightly rolled cylinder towards the top rail. I rested topper at the very top and installed the solera brackets. Once brackets were installed, I connected the topper arms to the brackets with the octagonal rods. Lastly was drilling the pilot holes to install the set screws and this is where I struggled the most. First bolt stripped off the head and the other bolt spun without grabbing on the topper rod. I tried many ways to remove the stripped bolt but after breaking two drill bits I left it as is seeing that it did in fact make contacted the rod. I have yet to open awning but will update review once able to. For this reason, I give them 4 of 5 but overall seems decent quality product.
